About

The Savannah Antiques and Architecture Weekend, SAAW, was created in 2017 by The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in the State of Georgia (NSCDA-GA), a registered 501c3 non-profit organization. The Weekend promotes interest in historic preservation and our nation’s history through informative and enjoyable educational events. Proceeds from the event benefit the historic Andrew Low and Green-Meldrim Houses, both designed by noted architect John Norris.

NSCDA has been a leader in the field of historic preservation since 1891. Presently, the association owns or operates more historic properties than any organization in America other than the Federal Government. The Georgia Society (NSCDA-GA), founded in 1893, currently has a total membership over 1,600 members.

Among others statewide, NSCDA-GA owns and operates two important historic properties in Savannah. Located on beautiful Lafayette Square are its state headquarters at 319 Abercorn Street and nearby, the impressive Andrew Low House Museum, which can proudly boast the highest visitation of all NSCDA historic sites nationwide.

Interestingly, NSCDA-GA’s first president was Mrs. W.W.(Nellie) Gordon, mother of Juliette Gordon Low. Through her marriage to William Low, Juliette came into possession of the Andrew Low House where she founded The Girl Scouts of America in 1912 and lived until her death in 1927.

We gratefully thank all of the talented and generous SAAW participants, sponsors, donors, and volunteers for their contributions to preserve our national heritage and insure History’s Future. Learn more at http://nscdaga.org/
