Andrew Low House – Green-Meldrim House – St. John’s Church Sanctuary
As a Special Treat this year, you will be serenaded by Savannah Jazz greats while you are joined by interesting characters from the past who were connected to these homes and Savannah during the Jazz Era.
Old Town Trolleys’ actors will bring these fascinating personalities to life, such as Julien Green, Sophie Meldrim and of course, Juliette Low among others.
Julien Green, the ex-patriate grandson of Charles Green was a life-long American citizen although living in Paris. He was considered to be one of the giants of French literature in the 20th century and became the first non-French member of the prestigious Académie française. His novels, imbued with family memories of Savannah, and of the Green-Meldrim House, earned him the title of “the French Margaret Mitchell.”
Juliette Gordon Low
Juliette Gordon Low was the widow of William Mackay Low, Andrew Low’s only surviving son. She was living in the Andrew Low House when she founded the Girl Scouts in 1912. She remained in the house until her death in 1927.
Sophie Meldrim Coy Shonnard
